15 Big Macho Athletes and Their Cuddly Pets

Macho Athletes and Cute Pets

Retired Ultimate Fighter Alan Belcher was a tough competitor, and had a meteoric rise to fame in his early career. He liked to knock dudes out… and he was pretty darn good at it. After retiring in 2015 with 18 wins and 8 losses, he now has way more time to spend with his adorable dogs.

His savagery in the ring is only matched with his passion for saving lil’ puppies from the pound. He is known for rescuing all sorts of dogs from the shelter, making this well known fighter just as much a lover – of animals at least.

Rough around the edge athletes are some of the toughest people in pop culture. MMA Fighters, pro wrestlers, football players… These are the people that make us envious of their strength, a little afraid of their power, and awfully glad we aren’t their opponents. These are the folks that, when you see them in action, the typical response is something along the lines of, “Yikes.”

These super tough guys and women, however, aren’t all hammer and steel though… Plenty of the world’s hardest athletes have a soft spot. Even the hardest among us have a hard time resisting the charms of a cute little critter.

Here you’ll see some of the toughest, scariest athletes around – but not with their usual scowls or poses of dominance. Nope, today we’re looking at these ironclad competitors at their most vulnerable – cuddled up with their furry friends.

1. Ronda Rousey

MMA is not a sport for the faint of heart, and it produces some of the brawny and toughest athletes around. If there’s one MMA star you would never want to square off with in the octagon, it would be Ronda Rousey. She is not only one of the strongest fighters, but absolutely ruthless in the ring as well.

When it comes to her adorable pet, though, behind the scenes Ronda Rousey is as sweet as can be! When she is not busy beating her opponents into submission, she often finds the time to pose for photos with her pooch, a loveable puppy named Mochi.

Here we see Ronda and Mochi. Rousey is busy giving out kisses to her pup – rather than her usual dose of kicks to anyone foolish enough to challenge her. It seems that Mochi is one opponent that Rousey can’t help but submit to.

2. The Rock

Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson is a certified superstar. From his very successful reign as one of the most popular wrestlers in the WWE to his transition into full blown action star, you can see that The Rock is one of the toughest guys in entertainment. It’s all the more believable when he body slams Vin Diesel through a concrete wall with relative ease.

Even though the unshakable Rock can easily put a guy’s head through a wall, he has a soft spot for little puppies, and has been known to risk life and limb for his French bulldogs.

Here is Dwayne Johnson in his home with one of his fuzzy buddies, after reports of him rescuing the bulldog puppies from drowning in a pool first came out. Thankfully for these little guys, The Rock is not only dedicated to dominating the WWE and saving the world on the silver screen, but also to lending a hand to cute critters in distress...

3. Dwyane Wade

Dwyane Wade is an NBA superstar and 2 time Champion who plays for the Miami Heat, and is a wrecking ball on the court. He’s a true powerhouse who is difficult to stop for even the best defenders. He plays with an unmatched fury, and has the awards and accolades to show for his skill.

When not crushing points on the court, he snuggles up with a smoosh-faced bulldog named Sasha. The aggression he displays on the hardwood just melts away when he is faced with a little four legged friend.

Dwyane is laying back with his puppy friend here. It sure looks like a relaxing afternoon with a fuzzy friend. His bulldog likes it has some years on it….

4. Floyd Mayweather

Floyd Mayweather is true icon in the word of boxing. He is an Olympic fighter and left the sport undefeated in the ring. He is fast and dangerous in a fight, and as outspoken as he is talented. Mayweather has made an undeniable impact on the world of competitive fighting.

Rather than a big, bulky scrapper of a dog, Floyd has a fluffy little poodle that he named Izzyballin. Maybe this cute doggy is a reflection of Mayweathers true self – maybe underneath all the bravado, riches, and boxing prowess, he’s actually just a cute poodle on the inside.

Here is Mayweather taking a flight with his fuzzy pup, looking adorable and fly. So, to answer the question “Izzyballin” …Yes, that pup sure is ballin’! Gotta give credit to Mayweather here – what a great choice of name.

5. Alan Belcher

Being a Beast in the ring is only matched with his passion for saving lil’ puppies from the pound. He is known for rescuing all sorts of dogs from the shelter, making this well known fighter just as much a lover – of animals at least.

Here is Alan with one of his cute rescue pups, snuggling up for the camera. It looks like this pooch was ringside, judging by Belchers fighting attire. Most fighters bring their wife or trainer – Belcher brings his dog..

6. Rashad Evans

Rashad Evans a spark to the world of MMA with a respectable win record and a noteworthy ability to switch completely up fighting styles to get the competitive edge. He was an adaptable and dangerous opponent in the ring.

This big, brutal fighter isn’t all chokeholds and one punch knockouts. A tiny, baby puppy in his arms makes him look a little less intimidating. Rashad loves his pup – almost as much as he loves dominating every fight with his adaptive and ruthless methods.

With 19 wins and 4 losses, Evans is one of the most dominant and successful fighters that MMA has ever seen. Here’s the big man himself, holding his adorable pup. Even in this picture with such a cute dog, he still looks like a beast.

7. Daniel Bryan

YES! YES! YES! Without a doubt, Daniel Bryan took the WWE and wrestling by storm. He had a presence in the ring that was nearly  unequaled, and through pure skill and grit, he managed to awaken an entire wrestling fan base.

After a long day of laying the smackdown in the ring and whipping audiences into a chanting fervor, Daniel Bryan retired from the ring Feb. 2016. At he heads home to snuggle with his pup Josie, an adorable French bulldog. A pet lover at heart, no matter how gruff he seems on the mic and in the ring, Josie makes Daniel look like a big softy.

Bryan may be more accustomed to diving off the top rope onto his opponents and pinning them to the mat, but it looks like he’s down for the count with his lovable hound. Due to a severe wrestling-related injury Bryan might have more time than ever to spend with his little buddy. Good for the pup, bad for Pro wrestling fans.

8. Hulk Hogan

A true, blue American hero and legend of the WWE, Hulk Hogan was the bane of many of wrestling’s most notorious villains and an idol to nearly all children of the 80s. He epitomized strength and prowess, able to rip his shirt in twain at a moments notice and power bomb even the largest of giants

This legend of a fighter does have a weakness, though – his chihuahuas. Hogan has often been seen around town walking his two pups, Pebbles and Pumpkin Spice. I find these names pretty hilarious – they’re so cute, compared to the man who decided them.

Some people can’t understand how a guy like this has such a soft spot for cute little doggies, but that doesn’t bother the Hulkster. He loves his pups… probably almost as much as he loves himself, am I right?

9. David Ortiz

David Ortiz (on the field also known as Big Papi), is a designated hitter and a world series MVP with a .284 batting average. This wall of a first baseman plays for the Boston Red Sox. He stands as a massive blockade on the first base line, intimidating runners that dare to leave home plate.

When he isn’t knocking the stuffing out of baseballs and brick walling poor runners with the misfortune to try to get by him, he is cuddling up to tiny, fuzzy pups. He has gone to shelters to advocate for rescuing dogs, and even rescued a few of his own.

Here’s a photo Ortiz giving his adorable puppy a little kiss on the head.

10. Mike Tyson

When you talk about boxers throughout history, there are a few names that always come up in the conversation. Undoubtedly, one of these names is former heavyweight champion and living legend, Mike Tyson.

AKA’ Iron Mike was as tough as he was eccentric. The phrase “unpredictable wildcard” would be putting it lightly when talking about Tyson – that’s why it was no surprise that a guy like Mike would tattoo his face and get a pet tiger. It seems par for the course.

But What amazes us is that, how damn cute that tiger is, and how adorable it is to see the champ playing with this overgrown kitten, going as far as walking the jungle cat down the street on a leash. Cute as they are together, they're most certainly not a duo you want to cross.

11. Stone Cold Steve Austin

What?!  Formally 3:16 Stone Cold is the beer drinking, truck driving, vest wearing bad boy of wrestling. The “Stone Cold Stunner” was his brutal and trademark way of putting opponents into the mat. He was a no-holds-barred force to be reckoned with, with personality to match his ferocity in the ring.

When he isn’t opening up a can of whoopass, though, Stone Cold hangs out with his lovable pooch, Hershey. Just kicking it at home or taking a ride in his big ol’ truck, the two are nearly indivisible.

Here’s a photo Steve behind the wheel with his furry pet copilot, relaxing and cruising a country road.

12. Randy Orton

Randy Orton devastates his opponents with his flying signature move, and is known as one of the WWE’s most insidious, self-serving villains. He is not one to be trifled with lightly, with a reputation of turning on a dime, talking a big game, and having the moves to back up what he says.

While he definitely has no mercy for his adversaries, Randy has a great deal of mercy for canines! The story goes: he found a lost pup in the wild of Bora Bora and worked hard to adopt the furry buddy. Happily, Orton was able to bring his furry friend home.

In this picture Orton at a department store , with his pup, He seems happy on a relaxing afternoon.

13. Tim Tebow

Of all of the discussion athletes when it comes toTim Tebow, no one disagrees that he’s good at what he does. A fearless quarterback, unafraid to put himself on the line and never backing down from a challenge, he’s a dynamo of a player that proves his worth on the gridiron time and time again.

It’s not all facing down massive defensive players for Tim, though. When it comes to animal friends, he likes them soft and huggable. It’s more than evident when you look at Tim and his puppy, Bronx.

Just look at Tebow holding that big-pawed, floppy-eared cutie. After dealing with the hard knocks of the football field, who couldn’t use a fuzzy buddy to cuddle?

14. Goldberg

Goldberg came onto the wrestling scene as a massive Juggernaut of intimidation. His signature move, the spear, was feared and revered all through the wrestling world. He was an unstoppable beast that dominated the arena for years.

While he was able to fell the mightiest of foes, there is one unexpected weakness that strikes right at the heart to the monster Goldberg – kitty cats. One might expect him to be a dog person, brandishing rottweilers or pit bills, but no – it’s little kittens that warm this formidable man’s heart.

Here’s a shot of the rough and tough Goldberg, standing no chance against the itty bitty claws of a ferocious kitten.

 15. J.J. Watt

Watt is a well-known defensive end for the Houston Texans with a reputation as a heavy hitter. He is a two-time Defensive Player of The Year, and is like a freight train when he comes over the line of scrimmage. Any quarterback should be trembling to see this brute barreling toward them.

What kind of pet does a powerhouse like this have? A bear to match his strength? A lion to match his viciousness? No, for Mr. Watt, only a King Charles Spaniel will do!

Here is J.J. hanging out in his kitchen with his pup, playing on the floor. This guy, so good at laying people out, is all but helpless when it comes to playing with a floppy-eared canine companion.
